Add Google reviews to Shopify
Our free Shopify app puts a Google Reviews block into your theme editor, so placing it is drag-and-drop — no code anywhere, on any Online Store 2.0 theme.
The app
ReviewsPlugin is free on the Shopify App Store. It adds a Google Reviews block to your theme editor, so the widget is placed the same way you place any other section — no code anywhere.
- Install the app. Shopify handles it; there is nothing to configure and no account to create.
- Find your business. The app opens on a search box already filled with your store's name — correct it if the business is listed under another, then pick it from the suggestions.
- Choose how it looks. Slider, grid, list, badge, flash or tag, with colours and every option beside a live preview. Press Save in the bar at the top.
- Add it to your theme. Pick the page you want and press Add to theme. The theme editor opens with the block already inserted — drag it where it belongs and press Save there.
Two blocks, two jobs
The app installs both; which one you need depends on where the reviews go.
- Google Reviews — a section you place on one page: a slider on the homepage, a grid on an About page, a list under a product template.
- Google Reviews (floating) — an app embed that shows badge, flash and tag widgets on every page at once. Turn it on from Floating widgets → Enable in the app.
Leave the block's Widget ID field blank and it shows your most recent widget. Fill it in when you have several and want a specific one — the app lists the IDs.
What the app can see
Nothing about your store. The install screen asks for no access to your customers, orders, products or theme — the reviews come from Google, and the widget is served from our CDN. The only line Shopify shows is the store owner's name and email, which every app receives.
What it looks like
Published, the page shows this — a live widget, loading real reviews as you read:

Four checks, in this order
- Press Save in the theme editor. Add to theme inserts the block, but the storefront only changes once the editor is saved.
- Look at the page you added it to. A block placed on the home page template is on the home page only; a badge on every page is the floating app embed, not a block.
- Check both widths. Reviews are taller on a phone than you expect, and some containers clip rather than grow.
- Check the Widget ID. Blank shows your most recent widget; a filled-in ID must match one the app lists.
If nothing appears
Shopify problems are nearly always one of these:
- You edited a theme that is not live. If you pressed Edit theme on a duplicate, the change is on the duplicate. Check which theme is marked Active.
- The block went onto another template. Each template has its own Add section link, and they look identical. Open the editor on the page you expect the reviews on and look for the Google Reviews block in its sidebar.
- The app embed is off. Badge, flash and tag widgets need Google Reviews (floating) switched on under App embeds in the theme editor sidebar — the app’s Floating widgets → Enable button opens it there.
- The widget is the wrong kind for the block. The Google Reviews block shows your latest slider, grid or list; a widget built as a badge rides along with the app embed instead.
- Check the widget id. Unable to load reviews means the script ran and the ID in the block does not match a widget.
Still nothing? Send us the page address and we will look at it.
Where this was checked
Admin screens get renamed. These are the pages this guide was written against, and what each one settles — checked August 2026.
- Customizing sections in the theme editor.
- Sections and blocks — why the header and footer reach every page.
